Greetings from Guatemala,

In early December we finished a great three weekend Vacation Bible School with many parents attending the closing service. The added blessing is that some continue to come. God has also blessed with the greatest turn out for a Christmas Musical Drama with people saved in both services.

To end the year, we took a hike up the volcano, Pacaya and had 15 guests to go along. Although we were not able to reach the crater because of it being too active, we were able to walk over to the two rivers of lava coming from the volcano. That was “hot” but even hotter was having two of the visiting families start coming to church, and another one of the families is attending our home Bible studies in the condominiums. What a great way to meet people.

The New Year started out with earthquakes up to 5.2 with winds knocking down trees and major electrical towers. Then Guatemala swore in the new president who promises to lead the country in a social-democratic form of government. A service following the inauguration was performed by the Mayan priest to recognize him as the Mayan leader. In the next few days he visited a large “evangelical” church and the Catholic Church to receive their blessings with a call to unity.

We have started rehearsal with a good group of musicians for our outreach concerts for Holy Week. We are praying for our schedule of when and where to present these evangelistic concerts. So far we are planning concerts in churches in zone 18 and zone 12. The ladies ministries have expanded into two groups. Now they meet on Thursday mornings for Discipleship and Bible study and Friday evening for prayer and Bible study. They are also planning a friendship dinner encouraging everyone to bring a friend in February.

There was a great spirit of unity as the church celebrated its anniversary. Our new ladies joined our team enthusiastically to serve lunch to 130 folks. We had a great time with praise and worship, a great message from the Bible and a power point presentation of the churches history.

Our address and phone numbers in Guatemala remain the same as well as our E-Mail addresses.

Thank you for your prayers and support

Don and Cathy Hinds
