“The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound” -Isaiah 61:1
2020 was not the best year. I know we are all sick of hearing about it, but there was a sad truth that became clear when tensions were high and fear kicked in: the devil is more passionate for people’s souls than most Christians are.
Read that again.
Do you see yourself in the latter part of that sentence? I do. I find myself getting frustrated at the world; all the politics, the confusion, the division. I try to sink inside my chair or slip under the table to run away from the chaos- until now. Souls are at stake.
There are people all around us that need to know about the Good News; brokenhearted people need to meet the Healer, and those bound with chains of sin and shame need to meet the Chain-breaking Liberator.
The symbolic ‘anointing’ we have been given comes through our acceptance of Jesus as our Lord and Savior, and dictates our life’s purpose. We are called to a consecrated mission of reaching people and pointing them to the Savior. Often the devil steals the time we could be sharing the gospel, and distracts people by whispering lies into their ears, because we are too busy to live out our calling.
We get so distracted by a virus, mandates, and fear, that we don’t see the needs of people right in front of us. Social media becomes divisive, our homes become hostile, our relationships are filled with opposition, and for what? The devil gets what he wants when we take our eyes off the mission.
We are called to a consecrated mission of reaching people and pointing them to the Savior.
Let’s get back on mission. First, pray for God to show you what is distracting you. Ask Him for renewed understanding of His anointing, and strength to live it out passionately. Second, write out Isaiah 61:1-3 and list ways you can accomplish the mission. For example: To live out this scripture “give them that mourn…the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness”- send an encouraging prayer or worship song to a hurting friend.
Lastly, take action. It’s time to get up and start living out the anointing that has been bestowed upon us. Live out the Good News. It’s time to show the devil up! May our zeal in fulfilling our calling to reach others far outweigh the efforts of the evil one.
