“He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.”
– Isaiah 53:3-5
Have you ever experienced grief? Sorrow so deep it feels like you are trying to get a knife out of your heart? Or maybe expectations and dreams never happened, and you’re left broken and wanting. Me, too.
I remember reading the verses in 1 Peter 5:7 talking about casting my cares on Jesus because He cares for me. As I experienced these deep disappointments and grief over my losses, I struggled to know how I could let them go. Weren’t they mine to carry, mine to feel? How could God really know what I felt as I felt it now?
Then I read these verses, and a few phrases changed everything: ‘man of sorrows’, ‘acquainted with grief’, ‘He hath borne our griefs’, ‘carried our sorrows’.
I saw a new aspect of my Savior. He carried the weight I so desperately tried to hold on to. I saw a Father who knows the deepest parts of my hurting heart. I met the God who has no fear in taking the most painful parts of my life, and making beauty from the ashes that are left.
As you meet with God today, tell Him your sorrows. Tell Him the grief you carry in your heart of hearts. He wants it all. He wants to lighten your load, and show you the life He has for you – one of purpose, freedom, and grace.
I met the God who has no fear in taking the most painful parts of my life, and making beauty from the ashes that are left.
Recognize Him as the Savior who is well-acquainted with the frustrations and hurts of this life. Your pain does not go ignored by Him, or get lost on His radar. You are seen.
Lastly, meditate on these verses and allow His truth to come along side you and guide you to His heart, bringing healing and peace only He can give.
