Confession time! I am over 2 weeks late turning in this blog post. This season has been full of juggling a thousand tasks, and empty of any creative juices or quiet moments to write. And can I be honest with you? I read these assigned passages 3 times, and my mind was blank as to what to say.
Not for lack of material (this week there are like 25 chapters of God-inspired, God-breathed TRUTH that we are reading!), but because it’s just where I find myself. So this week I stopped pressuring myself to find some new truth to present to you all. Instead, I want to share something practical for when life feels louder than God’s voice.
LOOK FOR GOD
Every chapter, every story, every moment is an opportunity to find something that God is revealing to us about Himself. There is so much to learn if we take the time to look. Let’s take a look at Deuteronomy 2:7, one of my favorite verses from this week’s reading!
“For the Lord thy God hath blessed thee in all the works of thy hand: he knoweth thy walking through this great wilderness: these forty years the Lord thy God hath been with thee; thou hast lacked nothing.”
So what can we learn about God in this passage?
He blesses the work of His children.
He knows when we are walking through difficulty.
He is aware of our trouble.
He is WITH US in our “wilderness”.
He never leaves.
He PROVIDES.
With His presence we lack NOTHING.
He can satisfy our every need.
What do these actions teach us about His character? He is compassionate. Gentle. Present. Attentive. Caring. Faithful forever. He is provision and satisfaction. He is GOOD.
What a list! What a comfort!
THANK HIM FOR WHAT YOU FIND
In this one verse we have a lifetime of things to thank Him for. What a debt of gratitude- so thank Him! Take the list you come up with, and pray it out. Let those truths bolster and strengthen your faith. Thank Him for the truth of who He is, and let the truth from the past strengthen your faith! He never changes, and He never will.
The most life-changing lesson I have ever been taught is simple, yet profound. Look for God in everything! Scripture doesn’t always need to be dissected and scrutinized in order to gain insight. Sometimes it can just be an invitation to search for God and find Him. To become a student of His character, and look for the evidence of His sovereignty in each line. He is there and He wants to be found.
Do you know Him? Start the search today!
